Hunger is something which we all experience on daily basis and it is important also to feel the hunger. Our liver sends signal to our brain when the glycogen levels run low so that we can eat and replenish the glycogen levels again. There are two types of hunger- one is called the toxic hunger and other is called as the true hunger.
What is toxic hunger?
Our body experiences toxic hunger because we do not get proper micronutrients in our diet, and the food which we are eating is extremely rich in sugar and salt and consists of animal, processed, junk and dairy food products. These are nothing but toxins which gets accumulated in intracellular regions of our body. After intake of such food, the digestion stops and breakdown of these toxins that is there metabolism begins for their elimination from our body. When these toxins are being metabolized their level in the blood increases and symptoms of toxic hunger is seen which includes discomfort, fatigue, headache, weakness, stressed out and we think that we are hungry and again we eat something which is not nutritious and this process keeps on repeating. The reason for hunger is that these fat cells are always hungry and gives wrong signal to our brain and we keep on eating to provide calories to our fat cells. This overeating or over consumption of calories results in obesity or gain of weight.
What is true hunger?
A true hunger is felt in the throat and not in the stomach or the head. On consuming plant based nutrition dense diet which is high in micronutrients and phytochemicals, our body gets the real food and these helps in removal of toxic substances from our body. It keeps our stomach full for a longer period of time and thus avoids overeating.
Who gives rise to addiction and withdrawal symptoms?
Toxic hunger gives rise to addiction and withdrawal symptoms. When our body gets used to eating junk food it is called addiction. And when we don’t eat these food we become sick and is called as withdrawal symptom. A very good example for this is - intake of coffee. People who are used to drinking 3 to 5 cups of coffee a day, when they don’t get their regular doses they start experiencing headache. Withdrawal symptom occurs because our body is trying to repair the damage caused by the noxious food.
How to cure over eating or food cravings?
Consumption of plant based nutrition dense diet, which includes larger portion of vegetables. These vegetables removes addictions, cravings and withdrawal symptoms. The micronutrients in the vegetables don’t produce toxic substances but it reduces the desire of overeating. Fruits and vegetables are high in fiber and low in sugar, thus keeps us full for a longer period of time with sustained release of sugar from our food. Foods like whole grains, kale, broccoli, green leafy vegetables, seeds and nuts are high in protein, fiber and has no sugar. Eating such kind of food and reducing or eliminating the intake of processed food, sugary foods and drinks will eventually reduce food cravings and ultimately helps in treating obesity by reducing good amount of weight.
