Arthritis - "A Reversible Disease" - At Any Stage

Why is it that some people are able to walk freely even when they are celebrating their 80th birthday whereas some people, far younger, suffer from severe joint, knee and hip pains?

Has this same scenario played out around you with your near and dear ones, or worse, yourself? Then you must also sometime wonder - is it possible to reverse arthritis irrespective of advancing age and severity of the problem? The answer is a big YES!

  • The percentage of osteoarthritis patients under the age of 30 has increased from 5% to 20% from 2002 to 2013.

  • The percentage of osteoarthritis patients within the age group of 30-45 years has increased from 12% to 22% from 2002 to 2013.

  • Around 57% of the elders above 55 years of the age suffer from osteoarthritis.

  • By 2025, India will become the osteoarthritis capital of the world affecting over 60 million of the population.

Types of Arthritis

There are many types of arthritis, but the two most common types are -

  • Osteoarthritis - It is the most prevalent kind of degenerative arthritis. It is the degeneration of the cartilage in the joints.

  • Rheumatoid Arthritis - It is an autoimmune, inflammatory arthritis.

What is the Root Cause of Arthritis

Arthritis comes from Greek arthro signifying joints and itis meaning inflammation. It is a disease of the joints and surrounding tissue. Arthritis means inflammation of the joint - no more, no less. The root cause of arthritis is Chronic Inflammation. Some people say it is hereditary, but that is not true, the main culprit of this disease is the food we eat. Our modern western diet which is high in fat, processed sugar and very less nutrients triggers inflammation. This inflammation over a period of time leads to the degeneration of the cartilage which provides flexibility and elasticity to your joints.

Why Painkillers, drugs and knee replacement are Not a permanent solution to Arthritis

Painkillers, drugs and knee replacement are not a permanent solution to arthritis because they just treat the symptoms and not the underlying cause of the inflammation. Painkillers just mask the pain and provide relief for sometime. They don’t repair the damaged cartilage and thus are of no use. Moreover as these drugs are given at very high doses they have many other side effects. So one is left with only 3 options - either they keep taking these drugs lifelong and if the pain increases, increase their dosage or undergo a knee replacement or change their diet. So unless, more nutrient dense diet is adopted, arthritis cannot be cured. And a permanent solution to arthritis is a plant based & nutrition dense diet.

Take home message

  • Bones & Joints can be healthy even at the age of 80 and above.

  • Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis, the two most common and prevalent forms of arthritis are absolutely reversible.

  • The root cause of arthritis is chronic inflammation which no drug or pain killer can treat since it is directly related to the food we eat.

  • Painkillers, drugs and knee replacement surgery are mere temporary & expensive solutions for arthritis that focus on the symptoms and not the cause of the disease while plant based & nutrition dense diet happens to be the safest, fastest, proven & inexpensive cure for arthritis.
