Back pain has become such a common condition, that it is affecting every individual in same way or the other. Backache is not a condition which affects only old age, rather it is now more commonly seen in the age group of 20s and 30s. This problem started increasing from the second half of the 20th century. The reason for back pain which people assume are like lifting heavy weights, bending or standing too much and working. But these are not the real causes, though it can impact to some extent but the main reason is something else, which people are not aware of. Posture definitely matters a lot and can be told as one of the reason for back pain but the root cause is diet. I know it's hard to believe that diet can lead to backache but that's the truth.
Root cause of back pain
Refined sugars, carbohydrates, processed foods, trans fat, saturated fats, all are inflammatory in nature and thus leads to inflammation in our body. Bread, pasta, sugary drinks, bakery items, fried foods, meat, eggs, chips, caffeine, alcohol and milk products are the example of such foods. All these food causes atherosclerosis in our arteries and because of this blood flow to the spine nerves is reduced due to constriction of the arteries. The discs which is found in the lower back have avascular tissue i.e. they don't have blood vessels. Due to lack of blood supply, the nerves are not getting proper nutrients and oxygen supply and even the wastes are not removed from these nerves which leads to lactic acid buildup and causes pain. Sometimes, this pain can even lead to a condition called sciatica. Sciatica is a kind of back pain which radiates down the legs and can even cause numbness or even disability.
Plant based & nutrition dense diet can reverse back pain
The only way to cure or reverse back pain is consumption of anti-inflammatory foods and this kind of food is found only in our rich plant kingdom. Flax seeds and chia seeds can reduce inflammation effectively within few days as they are rich in omega 3 fatty acid. Foods like carrots, beets, sweet potatoes, cherries, berries, grapes, red wine, pomegranate and watermelon are key foods which form an integral part of anti-inflammatory food. Few herbs and spices are also part of anti-inflammatory foods like turmeric, basil, oregano, cilantro, parsley, cumin, rosemary, cinnamon, ginger, garlic and onions. They not only reduces the inflammation but also makes our food delicious. Even green tea or oolong tea is beneficial in reducing the inflammation. Colorful vegetables and fruits are rich in their anti-inflammatory properties. Cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, kale, cauliflower, cabbage not only reduces the inflammation but also controls the stiffness in the lower back area. The reason why these food works is because they actually fix the root cause that is inflammation and enhances the blood circulation thus proper blood is supplied to our spine nerves and they get adequate amount of nutrients and oxygen required for their survival and proper functioning. Along with diet, regular exercise is also crucial.
